The EQ-Force process is the only earthquake process which reduces the seismic force on a footing and decreases damage to the structure. |
This new system will deliver its benefits irrespective of the nature of the soil. The benefits are independent of the footing configuration, size, and strength. The benefits are additive to any other improvements which may be made to the footing system or structure. If upgrading the soil by densification or the structure is part of necessary improvements, those changes can mostly occur without additional costs from using the EQ-Force mini-pile array. The installation design leaves a band of compressed soil directly under a footing which acts as a motion-damping zone. This further isolates the structure from seismic shock. The process is most useful for soils with compressible areas of 3 to 50 feet depth below the footings. Below that depth the process is technically workable but probably uneconomic to use. When you apply the new International Building Code (IBC) to the upgrade of existing structures or to new construction which must conform to the new code, the he EQ-Force Array should be considered. There may be significant cost saving to be had. The company will furnish a site specific design of the spatial array of mini-piles. The design engineer for the project will need to make all other calculations and develop specifications for construction. |
Typical footing design in earthquake prone areas may use strong slabs, short friction piles in good soil near the surface, or long piles founded on strong soil or rock. The supersonic shock which does the damage is transmitted full force. Or deep settlement and soil effects may allow maximum liquefaction damage. Placement of piles in an EQ-Force array reduces seismic shock and it leaves a motion-damping isolation zone directly under the footing. This system converts damaging high frequency shock waves to manageable low frequency effects which can be absorbed by the structure without major damage. |
